5 Things To Consider Before Hiring A Roofer

Roofing work isn’t cheap. A full-on roof replacement can cost anywhere from $8,700 to $22,000 on average, which is why it’s important to shop around and find a good price from a qualified professional. Here are 5 things to consider before hiring a roofer:

1. LONGEVITY

Roofs are meant to last 15-20 years. Your contractor should be too! The SBA reports that 80% of roofing contractors fail within the first 2 years. In 5 years, 96% are completely out of business. Pick a contractor that has been in business for at least 15 years!

2. EXPERTISE

Forbes and Inc magazine have both reported that it takes 10,000 hours of doing something to master it. Doing a couple of roofs a year for 20 years is only 40 roofs. Pick a company that has at least 2000 roofs under their belt!

3. REPUTATION

Read their online reviews. Read both good and bad reviews. Look for incongruencies. Do they have only a few reviews, yet been in business for 20 years? Do the comments give you any insight? Ask to talk to their last 3 customers (not 3 handpicked).

4. PROFESSIONALISM

Do they do what they say they will? Show up on time? Return your calls in a timely manner? Get your bid or estimate on time? If not, it's a sure sign of how they run their business and more importantly - HOW THEY WILL HANDLE YOUR JOB!

5. WARRANTY

There are workmanship warranties and product defect warranties. Quality companies offer products that have a Lifetime Warranty. If a company doesn't check boxes 1-4, the warranty they offer doesn't matter.

When disaster strikes and you need a new roof or just a roof repair, you NEED to hire a high quality roofer. Follow these tips and rest assured that you've got a disaster under control.
